Studying
in Lower Saxony
With its diverse higher-educational landscape, Lower Saxony
offers students an abundance of promising opportunities
for study. The state's universities, polytechnics (official
name: Universities of Applied Sciences), colleges of the
arts and vocational academies all have their own characteristic
profiles, with different learning goals, subjects and
courses of study.
Research
Lower Saxony's research scene has, with its outstanding
scientific institutes and higher-education establishments,
a great deal to offer. The so-called "research triangle"
encompassing Brunswick, Göttingen and Hannover has
developed into one of Europe's most eminent R&D regions.
Knowledge
and technology transfer
Contact with higher-education establishments and research
facilities is especially important for SMEs: companies
who do not want (or cannot afford) a large R&D department
of their own are often reliant on input from the scientific
community. Knowledge transfer is not, however, a one-way
street.
Libraries
Lower Saxony occupies one of the top spots in Germany's
library landscape. This is chiefly attributable to improvements
in customer service and investment in equipment (both
hardware and software), Internet infrastructure and digital
media technology.
